Getting Started

How do I get started?

Designing and installing custom wood furnishings may seem like a daunting task. A Cut Above will work with you to formulate your ideas into concrete plans from beginning to end. Whether you are planning a library, a fireplace mantel, entertainment center, built-in bookcases, or built-in home bar, the goal of the design process is to ensure the project meets your specific goals.

When we develop your design, we focus not only on your functional requirements, but on making sure it will be esthetically pleasing and blends in or complements the existing decor of your home. Your project, your requirements, your personal tastes, and your satisfaction are our top priority.

If you are already working with an interior designer or architect, or have completed a design on your own, then you are ahead of the game. We will be happy to work with your designer or architect and build your project according to their plans. Developing designs is part of our custom process, so if any input from A Cut Above on existing plans is desired, we will gladly offer recommendations to you.

Looking to invest in custom cabinetry, but don’t know where to start?

You can get started right now by answering the following questions. You may not be able to answer them all right now, but after your first meeting with A Cut Above, you’ll be well on your way to realizing your dream!

  1. What do you want from this project? Is this project to be purely esthetic or will it have a functional aspect (e.g., a media room, entertainment center, or home office)?
  2. What are your tastes? What style is your home decor now? Does this project need to fit in with the existing decor or will it stand alone?
  3. Do you envision the wood of your new project to be stained or natural; painted or antiqued? What type of finish do you want?
  4. What specie of wood is best suited for the project? Are you thinking of a domestic hardwood like maple, cherry, or walnut? Do you want to consider other, more unusual woods?

Looking for ideas? One way to start is to check out A Cut Above’s suppliers. There you can see a wide variety of domestic and exotic hardwoods by visiting Hardwoods Incorporated. You can see dozens of designs for cabinet doors and moldings at WalzCraft. If you are interested in one-of-a-kind carvings then you should definitely visit CamCraft3D.

If you can imagine it – we can make it happen…
